Fazenda Ipiranga

Fazenda Ipiranga builds on 150 years coffee experience. The long tradition combined with modern farming techniques and a dedicated team, result into our high quality and sustainable specialty coffee beans.

In the early 1990s, when our family took over the prestigious coffee farm, it was known as one of the largest employers in the Guaranésia region. To further improve the agricultural practices and the coffee quality, we started to convert the traditional coffee plantation of Ipiranga into sustainable, ecological farming. It started with a simple passion for authentic coffee and the desire to provide a better future for our children. This evolved into Fazenda Ipiranga as we know it today, one of the most future-focused farms in Minas Gerais.

Field

For three decades we have been producing our own coffee in the south of Minas Gerais, one of the best coffee regions in Brazil. At the family' own fazenda, where coffee has been cultivated since 1875, we have maintained the natural, Brazilian way of cultivation. The same care is taken in the traditional drying process, which we handle with patience and attention to detail.

Flavor

The taste and quality of our beans are the result of the care taken in our production and the strength of our soil.

Tasting notes: Nutty, light acidity, light body, notes of dark chocolate and caramel, generally the taste is very soft but clean and neutral. The finish is short but sweet and clean.

Future

The engagement for people and the environment has been driving us since our foundation. With a school and modern housing, we offer our local employees a contemporary quality of life. Sustainable farming takes care of the resources and allows for a natural, long-term coffee production.

Our values

Origin

Sul de Minas, Guaxupé: The favourable climate and terrain, combined with the artisanal production of the coffee, are the secrets of the award-winning region. The success factors are dedication at all stages of production, a solid infrastructure and investment in research. Sul de Minas has a mild temperature and high altitudes and has become one of the main producers of specialty coffees in Brazil.

Harvest

We harvest our coffee between May and September. We have adapted our techniques to the latest developments and rely on a combination of 90% mechanical harvesting and 10% manual harvesting.

Processing

The green coffee is dried on large patios under the sun. To ensure even drying and a clean cup profile, the coffee is raked and turned regularly.

Botany

Coffea arabica is one of two species of coffee plants that are widely cultivated worldwide. (The other is C. canephora, also called Robusta.) Arabica is the predominant species in Central and South America and much of East Africa and is considered the highest quality coffee plant. The Arabica variety consists of many varieties or cultivars - different types that can sexually reproduce among themselves.

Due to our altitude and latitude, we have selected the following Arabica types to best cultivate our land: Catuaí Vermehlo 144, Catuaí Amarelo 62 / Catuaí 99 / Arara / Catigua mg1 / Paraiso mg h 419

Climate

Sul de Minas - As the name suggests, this region is located in the south of the Brazilian state of Minas Gerais. Here the hills are gently rolling, the climate is pleasantly mild and the rains kiss the coffee trees with just the right amount of moisture to bring out the best in the beans. Sul de Minas lies at an average altitude of 950m and has a mild annual temperature of around 22 degrees.

Direct Trade

cosmo_E4A0990.jpg

The fairest way to buy coffee is through direct trade.

Fazenda Ipiranga has traditionally produced coffee for almost 150 years. Our family wants to pass on the result of this traditional way of production, care for the land and respect for people through direct relationships. Not only to save costs on intermediary trade, but also to better understand the values along the chain and the needs of the end consumer. We work for equity and for growth that brings well-being and opportunities for all.

We look forward to hearing from you and sharing our agricultural work with you.
